She's my new favorite person. #niece

View this post on Instagram A post shared by S.Y. Lo (@syloarts) I never knew my niece until she came here to Canada to live.  But when I met her and spent some time with her, and how she interacts. I come to see what a wonderful little person she is.  I feel as though she is a bit of an old soul. She at times likes things to be prim and proper. She's intelligent and at times it seems self taught, like she's ever evolving. But she's amazing.. even just to have a conversation with... even if she's three. This is her, with her Winnie the Pooh Family with Stitch and Sully. she herself placed them in a row for the family photo under the tree all by herself. Posing with them for the final shot.

Me to parents: why did you buy so many moon cakes?

Me to parents: why did you buy so many moon cakes? To try all the different ones? Dad: Yah..! :) Me: XD View this post on Instagram A post shared by S.Y. Lo (@syloarts)

First Christmas without Papa J

It surely is different without him. His shuffling around the house to the dinning room table. The over sized knitted sweater that he would be wearing because he's a little cold. The slow and pressuring trek that he would have to make up the stairs after breakfast to open the presents. The "Oh - Thank You" of his voice. I know he's surely watching from above and missing the delicious foods. Happy we're all celebrating together.

Murals Home For Now and Eat Fraser Valley

So in the morning we headed out to a salon opened up by my sisters friend called: Open to Beauty. Dropping off a painting series for it to be hung there. I'm thinking of doing more pieces to showcase there. It's a nice space. Here's a photo of the painting all nice and hung. As I was dropping off the painting, Koji got a pet blessing from a priest that was sitting next door outside at the coffee shop, giving out pet blessings for St. Francis of Assisi's day. :) We headed to B-'s mom's and aunties to pick them up as we were all going to Eat Fraser Valley! It was pretty interesting spending the afternoon with them, as this is their first 'Eat' event. Yi-ma ( Chinese for second mom / auntie ) reminded me very much of my own mom. As we had to watch her carefully or she would go off on her own without notice. I would say she's more bold to go off on her own to new tables and try everything! I personally thought it was pretty awesome. We got ...

The Engagement

Image
Right when I posted up the announcement, I was overwhelmed at how quick friends and family started to congratulate the news. I'm so thankful for the happy and supportive thanks. Many have asked for the "how he did it" story. I am not the shy and secretive type, although I can be. However there is many parts to this proposal I can't share in great detail. Some of it I thought I would share on my wedding day as part of my speech, but I guess I can always write another one. THE ENGAGEMENT I'll be honest to say, I didn't know he was going to pop the question. I didn't know he planned on doing it at all anytime soon. ( Although I was feeling it was never going to happen at all. ) It wasn't a grand spectacular proposal as I thought he would do, but he had his reasons and you'll soon know as well. What did happen? How did he pop the question? We were getting ready for bed, or should I say to go to sleep, as I was already on my side getting ...

Park Here Seafood Restaurant

Went to this restaurant with the company of mom and dad. Dad is a secret foodie at heart. He's eaten here a few times and though it was "alright". If it's good enough that brings us here, it should be good to consume.  You can read my review on  yelp . My Review as on Yelp: At first when you look at the name of the restaurant, you believe that it's all Chinese - As it's letters are the biggest on the sign. 百喜海鮮酒家. Their actual name is "Park Here Seafood Restaurant" in English, some maybe like me and believe that "Park Here" meant - park here.  Someone sounded out the Chinese words "百喜" for it's English name, it's English translation is really "Hundred Happiness" or "Hundred Delights". This restaurant's name, like many around the city of Vancouver has simply been lost in translation. But like that saying - "Don't judge a book by it's cover".  The food was good with very...

Happy Canada Day

Image
Wow, I haven't blogged in a long time but many things have happened through out the years that led me to slow down. So much so I may just return to my photos one day and back blog everything. Today was Canada Day, during the day we went to go visit some friends and in the evening I went to Lan's place for dinner. BBQ with the family, our Parents & Her future in-laws. After a bit of attempts to jam together guitar and ukulele, it was getting late. I headed over to Dad's place to attach a printer to his computer before heading back home. On our way home we noticed fireworks in the distance. As we drove down a large hill towards Scott Road, we noticed we got a clear view of some firework displays. We stopped on the road side. After we pulled over to enjoy the show, it wasn't long after other cars (3-5) behind us realized what we were doing and pulled over to enjoy the show as well. I didn't know if we were bad influences or not, but sometimes you have to stop and...

Top 24 Moments of 2013

Image
Most of the time, when it gets to the end of the year, I start to feel like I haven't accomplished anything in 2013. It feels like NOTHING happened when in reality, a lot did. I have to remember that the expectations sometimes I have for myself are ridiculous. Although having high expectations of yourself is not a bad thing, it isn't the greatest for you sometimes either. You can really bring yourself into this states of depression that even you yourself cannot pinpoint the reason. Because sometimes that's just how depression works. I learned, as I was organizing a years worth of photos - moving them from my mobile to my computer, there has been a bunch of noteworthy moments. Moments that reminded me that this happened and it was great, even if it was bad. Here are the top 24 highlights I should always remember that happened in 2013 (chronological). 1. The Mount Baker Trip A bunch of friends coming together to go on a trip should always be remembered.Snow high ...

My 150$ Christmas Budget

Image
This year I've definitely been living on a budget. So this Christmas I set one. My initial gifts were supposed to all equal to 100$ but that wasn't going to happen. However I was able to keep it all under 150$. How did I do this? Most of everything I gifted was homemade. FOR THE SISTER - 1) Home made Vinyasa Scarf - 15$ for materials and buttons. FOR THE NIECE and NEPHEW - 1) Coloring Book - 2$ @ Michael's 2) Hello Kitty Sticker Book - 5$ @ Michael's FOR SISTER'S WHOLE FAMILY - 1) DIY paper toy packages. Paper & Ink - Free. Clear coat paint - 5$@ Canadian Tire designs I got from  http://www.paper-toy.fr/   &  http://minipapercraft.blogspot.ca/ I spent a lot of time altering the original designs (enlarging them), printing them out, and cutting them out, spraying them with clear coat and scoring the fold lines. This ensures a longer lasting and better looking paper toys. 2) Box of Disney puzzles - 8 pack for girls & boys -(not phot...

Christmas Eve Morning

Image
It's wonderful to wake up in the morning and then find out your sister had her baby the night before and didn't contact you. But I headed over to the hospital right away after finding out the news and was glad to see the baby is a gorgeous baby girl. In the evening was the family Christmas get together dinner. It was quaint and not as busy as it used to be the years before. Very different feel. What a great addition to the family.

Pre-Halloween Fun

Image
Spending not enough time at home with Koji, this one friday night we thought we would take him with us and bring him back with us. Bringing him along with us to my sister's. Ethan was all excited that there was a different doggy. However Joey did not like Koji being up in his space. As I would imagine how Koji would have been when CC visited his house. But Koji wouldn't be as aggressive. It's just before Halloween and me and B- got pumpkins before we headed over.. we carved them that night. For the first time I made pumpkin seeds.. which I became highly addicted to. We dipped and decorated some cake-pops. Lan carved one of the pumpkins as me and B- carved one together.

Crazy Photoshoot day. lots of traffic. anxiety. Good Fun. Here is a sneak peek of some of the photos that were taken of Shalini at the shoot for the cover for her upcoming album release. At the end of the day Vik convinced me to step infront of the camera and take a pic.
